Success For Ormeau Players @ Home Nations

Success For Ormeau Players @ Home Nations

Ormeau Table Tennis club was well represented at last weekends Home Nations Championships in the Isle Of Man with 5 players representing Ireland. Overall good success for the Irish teams with the majority of them picking up Silver / Bronze and the Junior girls picking up Gold!

The biggest success for an Ormeau player came from Anna Kelly who played brilliantly to make the final in the singles event! On her way to the final, she recorded a fantastic win over top Welsh player Lara Whitton. In the final, Anna was competitive in all games but lost 3-0 to English No1 and claim silver for Ireland in the cadet girls singles! Anna joined Ormeau teammate Lucy McIvor in the team event and they managed to pick up bronze in the team event. Lucy had a great run in the singles losing out to eventual English winner in the semi-finals but again brilliant to pick up a bronze medal!

In the Seniors we had Thomas Earley joining Ryan Farrell in the Men’s team with the guys finishing 4th in the team event. Thomas had many close 5th setters against top English & Welsh opposition but manage to pick up a nice win over experienced Gurnsey No1 Gary Dodd.

Brothers James and Max Skelton also represented Team Ireland with James in the Junior Boys and Max in the Cadet Boys! James and Max both played a massive role in their teams with Cadets finishing with Silver just pipped by England and Junior boys in third losing narrowly to Scotland 3-2. In the singles, both boys made it the semis and picked up Bronze medals! James recorded a great victory over English No2 and Scottish No on his way to the semi-finals.

Overall excellent for the Ormeau players and now look forward to final preparations for the Ulster Open this weekend!
